Antonia (2006)
Four young black women live in the neighborhood of Brasilandia, in the underprivileged outskirts of Sao Paulo, and fight for the dream of making a living with their music. Friends since childhood, Preta, Barbarah, Mayah and Lena constantly need to fight against poverty, violence and sexism. Each of them succumb to their grim realities, but end up gathering the pieces of the group and regaining the joy of singing together.
The film Antonia generated a successful homonymous spin-off TV series at Rede Globo, which was indicated for the Emmy International in 2007, the television’s Oscar.
