Democracy
Written in the form of a diary, the film intertwines my personal journey as a woman, mother, filmmaker, and activist with the fragile history of democracy in Brazil. Democracy starts at a turning point episode of my life: in 1979, when my daughter was born, her father and I wished her a long life in a democratic country. We were part of the student movement that was beginning to reorganize itself after the 1964s’ military coup and the years of harsh dictatorship that followed and realized that not one generation had experienced life in a complete democracy. We now live times of uncertainty again.
